For each test, you will sit upright in a recliner or against the headboard of a bed. The study begins two hours after awakening and consists of five tests occurring at two-hour intervals. Although this is not a diagnostic tool, it does provide insight to the severity of the daytime sleepiness and can be used to help assess the effectiveness of treatments you may be receiving for sleep problems. The MWT is used to assess your level of daytime sleepiness. If this treatment is found to be beneficial, and your doctor prescribes its use, a home medical equipment company will instruct you on proper usage and care. Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT)Ī Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) will help determine your level of daytime sleepiness after eight hours of sleep. Although this test is not a treatment, it can help your doctor determine whether you suffer from a sleep disorder. Oftentimes, these problems may cause either an inability to sleep or excessive daytime sleepiness. The Nocturnal Polysomnogram, or NPSG, test is an all-night sleep study intended to document any respiratory, neurologic or physical problem that may occur during sleep.
